About The Position

Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community. Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations. Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower. Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Three years of experience in journey level inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems or electronic equipment, systems, and components.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree or equivalent in related technical field.
  • More than three years of experience in maintenance and testing of fire alarm systems.
  • Experience at the University of Texas or in a university setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment.
  • NICET Level I certification or higher in Fire Alarm Systems or other related fields.
  • Successful completion of the Campus Planning and Facilities Management Leader Development program.

Responsibilities

  • Performs journey level skilled work in the maintenance and operation of fire alarm systems in campus buildings.
  • Performs both routine and preventative maintenance on detection and alarm systems.
  • Performs and/or assists with fire alarm systems inspections.
  • Assists with fire sprinkler inspections when required.
  • Assists with repair, replacement, upgrade and remodel of fire alarm systems.
  • Assists with fire alarm system commissioning.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors and team members up to date on daily work order status.
  • Generates material lists and acquires materials for efficient work.
  • Keeps accurate records of materials used and maintains daily time reports.
  • Keeps accurate and up to date documentation of all systems.
  • Supports outages, coordinates and works with contractors and other entities.
  • Participates in the on-call program.
  • Keeps up to date on all code changes, testing procedures and product knowledge.
  • Performs organizing and cleaning tasks to keep work areas safe and efficient.
