About The Position

Coordinate components of the Fire Safety Program across Georgia Tech properties, including statewide research and extension facilities. Evaluate new construction and renovation plans for compliance with safety codes and state laws. Oversee plan review and permitting program. Administer contracts related to the maintenance and installation of safety equipment. Coordinate fire emergency operations with local firefighting agencies. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: Fire Marshal, Facilities and Capital Planning staff and management, all campus departments, and local and state firefighting agencies. This position typically will advise and counsel: Georgia Tech community this position will supervise: NA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four to five years of job related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist.
  • Related knowledge of a higher education environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering Technology or Fire Protection Engineering.
  • Five to seven years of job related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Act in the capacity of a Deputy Fire Marshal and fill in as appropriate in the absence of the Fire Marshal. Assist Fire Marshal in managing investigations and inspections.
  • Review and audit annual fire and sprinkler inspection reports.
  • Review building plans of new construction and renovation projects to provide life safety codes and state law compliance. Issue and maintain permitting systems.
  • Assist the Institute community in meeting the requirements of adopted fire codes and standards through training and delivering information. Provide training in fire prevention and safety.
  • Act as a liaison with the State Fire Marshal's office and confer with local officials concerning fire safety issues. Assist other Georgia Tech departments in expediting the plan review process with State Fire Marshal's office.
  • Administer contracts related to the maintenance and installation of fire extinguishers, clean agent and chemical fume hood extinguishing systems; assist with developing the annual fire safety budget.
  • Provide oversight and inspect events at venues with large assemblies.
  • Manage and coordinate fire safety office inspections of privately owned property utilized by Georgia Tech Greek organizations and other Georgia Tech entities.
  • Coordinate fire related emergency operations with local firefighting agencies statewide. Conduct cause and origin investigations as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
