About The Position

As a Fire Risk Assessor, you will plan, schedule and deliver life safety fire risk assessments (FRAs) across the Defence estate, providing fire safety advice to effectively manage fire risk and protect personnel and property. The role is remote/home-based, with a focus on Northern England/Scotland, the Midlands, and South of England, with occasional travel to Defence overseas locations. You will be expected to travel 2-3 days per week across regions of the UK, with travel and accommodation expenses covered.

Requirements

  • Recognised fire safety training and qualifications.
  • Practical experience of FRA delivery.
  • Competent IT user.
  • Good communicator, face-to-face and via email/report writing.
  • Well organised, able to plan and manage your own workload without close supervision.
  • Target driven - committed to meeting/exceeding targets.
  • Commitment to quality - able to maintain a high standard of FRA output.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional fire safety certification/registration (e.g. IFE, IFSM).
  • Possession of the Skills for Justice Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety (Fire Auditors).
  • Experience/training in fire investigations and/or fire resilience (property protection) risk assessments.

Responsibilities

  • Working remotely, using MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Teams) along with Capita's Assure FRA system to forecast, plan and manage an ongoing programme of FRA visits.
  • Travelling to a wide range of Defence sites across the region (a vehicle is provided).
  • Planning an efficient programme, taking into account workload and travel times/distances.
  • Managing your time effectively to ensure that monthly targets for FRA delivery are met, including writing-up and issuing to the customer to required timescales.
  • Engaging with Defence Heads of Establishment (Responsible Persons), and their teams, to plan and conduct effective visits, including face-to-face briefings on key findings.
  • Applying fire safety legislation and guidance, along with relevant Defence and Service policy, to deliver FRAs and fire safety advice.
  • Keeping a continuous professional development (CPD) portfolio, to maintain and develop competence and deliver a professional service to our client, customers and the Defence community.
