Reports: Prepares a variety of reports on fire runs, training, inspections or other areas as assigned to comply with Wing, NGB and NFPA standards and to provide supervisory and management staff with information as requested. This requires the ability to gather and present data in an understandable, written format within designated timelines and knowledge of standard reporting formats. Inspections: Inspects and maintains structural, ARFF and support vehicles, tools, and equipment and protective clothing to ensure that it is in good operating condition. This requires knowledge of inspection standards for all firefighting and hazardous materials response related items and the ability to detect defects/potential defects, make the correct repair and/or bring the matter to the immediate attention of supervisory staff. Training And Drills: Attends and/or participates in formal and informal training classes and drills to increase one's knowledge and competency level in all aspects of firefighting, rescue, hazmat response and other related areas, and to successfully complete all mandatory training courses within established standards and timelines. This requires the physical and mental ability to safely perform all aspects of firefighting and support activities, active and productive participation and compliance with training/drill timelines and standards. Communications Center: Monitors, receives and records information from normal or emergency communications systems to alert firefighting personnel and support agencies; dispatch equipment; inform personnel of the location and nature of the emergency; and provide pertinent information during emergencies. This includes maintaining a fire station log; maintaining and reading maps, charts and status board; and operating automated communications center equipment. This requires knowledge of radio protocol and the ability to remain calm, organized and effective in all types of situations. Standbys: Performs hazardous operation standbys (i.e. welding....) and airfield surveillance operations are prepared to immediately respond to possible emergency situations. Requires knowledge of accepted safety operating standards for crafts and trades work. Station And Facilities Maintenance: Performs a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure that fire extinguishers and detection systems are in good operating condition. This includes, but is not limited to, inspecting, maintaining, repairing, recharging and testing fire extinguishers; and identifying, inspecting and resetting fire suppressions/detection systems. This requires the knowledge of, and the ability to accurately test and operate a variety of firefighting and detection equipment. Other: Performs other related duties as assigned. This includes, buy is not limited to, protecting and preserving evidence at the scene of an emergency in accordance with standard operating procedures; assisting in determining the nature and cause of a fire; cleaning living, kitchen and other areas; completing special projects as assigned; providing (if certified) emergency medical services to Wing members and visitors when needed, etc.
