About The Position

The Fire Plans Reviewer position at the City of Tucson’s Fire Department performs basic to moderately complex plan review of new construction, alterations, repairs, development plans, and fire protection submittals to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards. This position actively assists applicable parties through the process from permit application through final inspection. Work is performed under the supervision of the Fire Plans Review Manager. This position does not supervise.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's degree is not required, ONLY a high school diploma is required for the position and two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working in a fire plans office in new construction related to fire protections systems.
  • NICET III or equivalent in Automatic Extinguishing Systems, Fire Alarm, or Special Hazards.
  • 2 years experience as a Fire Inspector or Plans Examiner in a related field.
  • 2 years field experience as an installer of fire protection systems.
  • ICC Fire Inspector I & II or equivalent NFPA certifications.
  • ICC Fire Plans Examiner or equivalent NFPA certification.
  • Fire Plans Reviewer certification through International Code Council, (ICC) or NFPA or related certifications
  • ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification must be obtained within 1 year of employment
  • 2 years of Fire Protection Systems field work experience maybe substituted in lieu of certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings and structures to ensure compliance with fire prevention codes.
  • Advises stakeholders on code requirements and safety standards.
  • Reviews and analyzes fire protection plans and systems.
  • Coordinate with building officials on approvals.
  • Maintains and tracks records.
  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
