About The Position

As a Fire Protection Engineer I, you will support the safe deployment and operation of Fluence products by interpreting fire code requirements, developing compliance solutions, and contributing to ongoing improvements in Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) fire protection. This role is essential to meeting expanding project pipelines, evolving regulatory expectations, and increased demands for permitting, testing, sales support, and product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent engineering background.
  • 10–15 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Fire Protection Design experience.
  • Experience developing code compliance documentation.
  • CFM fire modeling experience.
  • Fire Protection permitting knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex fire code requirements and convert them into sound technical solutions.
  • Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated initiative and success in fast‑paced, dynamic environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong fire modeling capabilities and experience negotiating with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to interpret fire code requirements and translate them into effective product design, permitting, and compliance solutions.
  • Apply fire protection engineering expertise and practical experience to diagnose and solve technical issues.
  • Develop and implement code compliance matrices to accurately capture and translate fire code requirements.
  • Identify and address fire code deficiencies, including unique requirements from local jurisdictions and AHJs.
  • Support, develop, and deliver training to internal teams, customers, and Fire Departments on appropriate first‑responder actions during thermal events within an array.
  • Participate in technical issue management to streamline issue identification, understanding, and resolution.
  • Stay current with industry code updates, emerging trends, and evolving technologies to continuously improve fire safety and support company growth.
  • Provide additional capacity in sales support, permitting activities, testing programs, and participation in industry technical committees (NFPA, IEEE, UL, CESA, ACP, EUCG).
  • Support large‑scale testing initiatives, international certification efforts, permitting reviews, regulatory engagements, and mentoring of junior engineers.
