About The Position

Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (BakerRisk) is a technology leader in assessing the consequences and risks associated with potentially catastrophic events including explosions, fires, and toxic material releases. BakerRisk uses the most advanced methodologies and tools to predict potential consequences, providing services to industrial companies and government organizations around the world. BakerRisk is currently seeking a Fire Protection Engineer/Consultant to assist with fire protection and loss prevention projects/activities.

Requirements

  • BS or MS with a minimum of 3 plus years experience in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering; 5 or more years experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of active and passive fire protection design principles.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and recommended practices applicable to petrochemical and/or petroleum refining facilities.
  • Familiarity with testing and evaluation of fixed protection systems including firewater supplies, pumping systems, distribution systems, fixed water spray systems, fireproofing, fire and gas detection systems, etc.
  • Experience in computer-based modeling of consequences of flash, jet, and pool fire, including screening-level modeling (ALOHA or similar), CFD/FDS, etc.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate emergency response plans, resources, and capabilities in relation to potential events at client facilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under the direction of senior engineers and handle multiple work assignments and projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in standard computer/information technology systems such as MS Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Registration as a Fire Protection Engineer is highly desired.
  • Experience in fire system hydraulic analysis including KYPipe or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in CAD, FDS, CFD, and/or other modeling platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex Fire Protection and Process Safety technical problems, involving numerical calculations to advance software models for predicting fire event outcomes and mitigation measures.
  • Evaluate fire and explosion risks and hazards.
  • Review and identify available protection and emergency response resources.
  • Develop prevention and protection solutions for client consideration.
