Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • 5 years of experience.
  • Professional fire protection engineering experience, including familiarity with the International Code Council (ICC), NFPA 101, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, FM Global datasheets, military standards, and refinery/industrial API guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Revit, BIM, and Microsoft Office skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design and/or review of fire protection and life safety systems on multi-discipline projects.
  • Coordinate with and support other A/E disciplines.
  • Participate in design review meetings and workshops.
  • Assist with preparation of comprehensive fire protection packages including fire suppression, fire alarm, and life safety.
  • Create specification documentation for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
  • Perform fire suppression and alarm systems calculations.
  • Evaluate building and life safety requirements including building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems.
  • Provide construction administration support including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, the review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, field inspections, and witnessing testing of fire protection systems.
  • Coordinate with all applicable local authority departments to obtain approval at all stages of the project, to include creation of code modification requests and engineering judgements.
  • perform site evaluations and document existing fire protection systems.
  • Maintain compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
