About The Position

The Fire Medic is a dual-role emergency responder responsible for providing advanced life support (ALS) medical care, fire suppression, rescue operations, and hazard mitigation. This role requires rapid decision-making, strong teamwork, and the ability to perform under physically and mentally demanding conditions. Fire Medics respond to emergency calls, provide patient care, operate firefighting equipment, and ensure public safety through education and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Colorado EMT- P certified
  • BLS/ACLS/PALS certified
  • DFPC or Accredited Firefighter II
  • DFPC or Accredited HazMat Awareness/Operations
  • DFPC or Accredited Driver Operator/Pumper
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • NWCG 130/190/L-180 with current Red Card
  • Work Capacity Test at the Arduous Level (Pack Test)
  • Current Candidate Physical Agility Test (CPAT) certificate at the time of hire
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License with no major violations
  • Must be able to obtain within first 12 months or as otherwise determined by the Division Chief of Operations

Nice To Haves

  • Three years EMS field experience with at least two of these three years working as a Paramedic on an ambulance.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, hazardous materials incidents, rescues, wildland incidents, and other emergency situations in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
  • Provides high-quality pre-hospital care, including advanced life support (ALS) and basic life support (BLS) interventions.
  • Perform fire suppression activities, including hose operation, ventilation, search and rescue, salvage, and overhaul.
  • Perform technical rescue activities such as vehicle extrication, water rescue, rope rescue, and hazardous materials support (based on department needs and certifications).
  • Assess the nature and extent of illness or injury and establish priorities for emergency care based on clinical assessment and standard medical protocols.
  • Drives and operates fire apparatus and ambulances under emergency and non-emergency conditions in accordance with departmental policies and traffic laws.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and healthcare providers to ensure accurate transfer of medical information and compassionate care.
  • Documents patient care, incident reports, and related records accurately and completely using approved reporting systems.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, readiness, and proper functioning of station facilities, apparatus, equipment, and supplies through regular checks and inventory control.
  • Utilize tools such as axes, saws, ladders, and hydraulic rescue equipment safely and effectively.
  • Utilize specialized equipment to safely remove and treat victims.
  • Collaborate with other emergency services, including fire and law enforcement, to ensure coordinated and effective scene management.
  • Participate in ongoing training, continuing education, and quality improvement programs to maintain certification and enhance skills.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, local/state regulations, and safety protocols to ensure the highest standard of patient care and personal safety.
