The Fire Life Safety Project Manager / Fire Protection Engineer is responsible for providing Fire Life Safety project and program technical support services during the planning, design, and construction administration phases of health care, infrastructure, fire alarm/fire suppression, special repair, and both minor and major capital outlay correctional projects. This position is full-time and based in Sacramento, CA.

  • Develop and implement the review of fire system designs and criteria development for institutional and detention and corrections projects.
  • Develop, review and approve scope of work information for the development of fire system designs and modifications.
  • Evaluate vendor bids, review and advise on contracts, and evaluate acceptance testing documentation of installed fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Develop and maintain work programs and procedures for best practices and trends in fire control program design.
  • Conduct and coordinate fire protection consultants; assess compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Identify fire hazards, risks and deficiencies; recommend modifications in fire protection measures or procedures.
  • Incorporate approved changes into existing fire control.
  • Provide advice on engineering data, designs and specifications, contract award, planning and installation phases for projects.
  • Review fire systems engineering bid packages for new and replacement equipment with detailed specifications.
  • Plan, coordinate, prioritize, monitor, guide, review and conduct work activities associated with department/internal/external projects.
  • Build and maintain positive internal work relationships and coordinate with clients for major fire systems modifications and equipment replacement.
  • Interact with the client’s team, providing contract administration and construction coordination on all projects.
  • Review and coordinate consultants’ review of engineering designs and modifications to fire protection systems.
  • Develop documentation as necessary.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Fire Protection Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in the design or plan review of fire and/or life safety systems.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in fire systems engineering, design, or plan review/inspections at institutional and detention and corrections facilities.
  • Professional Fire Protection Engineer License, California certified.
  • Working relationship with the California Office of the State Fire Marshal is preferred.
  • Experience with correctional code standards and guidelines preferred.
  • Experience with large campus, multi-building facilities or correctional facility construction preferred.
  • State driver’s license.
  • Basic security check meeting client's guidelines is required.
