This position at SGS involves performing fire and flammability testing of consumer products, where the individual will learn multiple industry methods. The role is situated within the Govmark Lab, and the employee will work under general supervision to carry out various job functions. The primary responsibility includes conducting routine laboratory testing in a flammability testing lab, adhering to the company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant testing methods. The employee will validate performance on these methods as required and ensure compliance with applicable standards such as ASTM, NFPA, CFR, ISO, and customer-specific protocols. In addition to testing, the employee will be involved in developing, writing, reviewing, performing, and validating test methods, laboratory SOPs, and other departmental operating and quality documents under supervision. The role requires setting up, testing, extinguishing, and overhauling multiple fire tests, demonstrating a willingness to learn, and possessing good organizational skills and attention to detail. The employee may also assist in providing limited internal support to marketing, sales, customer service, and laboratory operations regarding tests, reports, and other technical information. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment is crucial, and the employee will be responsible for general upkeep and housekeeping of the laboratory. Accurate completion and maintenance of all laboratory reports are essential. Additional responsibilities may include receiving, sorting, and logging client samples into the database, overhauling mattresses, building basic furniture, using power tools, and archiving or disposing of client samples as per established procedures. The employee will also perform regular Quality Assurance/Quality Control checks on equipment and assist in keeping an inventory of laboratory chemicals and equipment necessary for daily operations. Calibration and verification tasks related to ISO 17025 will also be part of the job, along with ensuring that all personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks is worn at all times. The employee must adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
