THIS POSITION WITH THE FIRE MARSHAL'S OFFICE UNDER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IS 19.5 HOURS PER WEEK WITH A VARYING SCHEDULE. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision of the Fire Marshal, incumbent performs fire code inspections and plan reviews, assuring compliance with the Connecticut Fire Safety Code, the Connecticut Fire Prevention Code and referenced standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Performs fire code inspections of buildings and public establishments and prepares related reports. Reviews plans and specifications to inform inspections, review abatement actions, and to assure fire safety code compliance for building permits. Issues abatement orders where violations are found or where regulations concerning flammable and combustible liquids, flammable gases, hazardous materials, explosives, fireworks and fuel emergencies apply; conducts follow up inspections. Maintains current knowledge of fire safety codes and standards. Provides code consultation to property owners, developers, contractors, and the public. Responds in a timely manner to complaints. Contributes to a respectful and safe work environment by fostering a culture of positive communication, ethical behavior, and emphasis on providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
