The City of Bend Fire Department is actively seeking a full-time Fire Inspector to join its team. This position is represented by the Bend Firefighter Association and is classified as FLSA non-exempt. The Fire Inspector will play a crucial role in enforcing ordinances, codes, and laws related to fire prevention and safety measures aimed at protecting life and property in various facilities accessed by the public, including commercial and industrial buildings. The successful candidate will assist in developing fire prevention programs, conduct inspections, and provide education to the community regarding fire safety. Additionally, the Fire Inspector will investigate fires to determine their cause and origin, working under the general supervision of the Deputy Fire Chief of Prevention and the Assistant Fire Marshal. In this role, the Fire Inspector will not have direct supervisory responsibilities but will act in a lead capacity when directing lower classification personnel during routine fire safety inspections, fire scene investigations, and public education presentations. A thorough working knowledge of fire investigation techniques is essential for solving technical problems related to fire cause determination. The Fire Inspector will engage with business and structure owners regularly to inspect, educate, and enforce fire safety ordinances. This position requires a high degree of integrity, interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. The Fire Inspector must also be prepared to respond to emergencies and hazardous materials incidents, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
