About The Position

The Fire Inspector position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Ohio Fire Code through inspections and re-inspections, public education, and fire investigations. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the role involves administrative duties, record keeping, and public relations, with a primary focus on fire prevention and education. The position does not involve decision-making authority, as all recommendations must be approved by the Fire Chief.

Requirements

• Valid Drivers License
• Ohio Certified Fire Safety Inspector
• Ohio Certified Firefighter II
• Ohio Certified Paramedic or EMT
• 5 years experience as a Fire Safety Inspector
• Ohio Fire Academy Plan Review for Fire Officials (Within 2 years of appointment)
• Ohio Fire & Life Safety Educator I (Within 3 years of appointment)

Responsibilities

• Interpret and enforce the Ohio Fire Code and Ohio Basic Building Code.
• Conduct general fire safety inspections and various fee-permit inspections.
• Perform field inspections of commercial and multifamily residential properties for fire code compliance.
• Conduct final occupancy acceptance tests for fire suppression and detection systems.
• Review and approve plans for construction and installation to ensure fire safety compliance.
• Prepare written reports of inspections and maintain records.
• Participate in public relations events and community education programs.
• Respond to emergency requests for First Responder (EMS) service and structure fires.
• Assist in developing and maintaining records and reports for inspections and investigations.
