About The Position

A leader in the Fire Suppression Systems field, is looking for a qualified Fire Design and Project Engineer to join their dynamic team ASAP. The person can be based anywhere in South Africa as the role is predominantly virtual/remote except for the onsite client work, which will require travel to client sites. This position offers challenging projects within different industries (mining, industrial, building services, etc.) Performance Based Designs ( Rational Designs ) require an in depth understanding of fire engineering. It is important to understand the concept of Rational Design (not only as a tick box exercise, but in depth understanding required). The client may request to see evidence of Sprinkler hydraulic designs (pump and tank sizing) as well as smoke control design (Fire growth and size, Heat Release Rate, smoke generation and smoke fill rate calculations) coupled with ASET and RSET evaluations.

Requirements

Degree in Engineering or Relevant qualification essential
2-4+ years of experience
Design and install fire suppression and detection systems in various industries
Fire plan preparation and submission (as a minimum)
Sprinkler system design and implementation
Sprinkler hydraulics
Smoke control calculations
Fire detection system design
Rational fire design with reference to BS 7974 and the supporting PDs
Well-versed with engineering design software
Performance based engineering (hands on experience with the actual engineering side of things)
Engineering Project Management of a fire protection system installation (Stage 5)
experience in drafting fire plans according to SANS 10400-T and the associated supporting SANS codes, as well as interfacing with the fire departments during the approval process
Own transport, valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to clients when required
Medically fit and willing to work on mining and construction sites
