About The Position
Only current City of Oxnard Fire Department employees that meet the qualifications for the position of Fire Engineer are eligible for this promotional opportunity. Under the general supervision of a Company Officer, respond to fire suppression and/or other emergencies by driving and operating fire apparatus and rescue equipment; is responsible for the operational readiness of all company fire apparatus and equipment; performs inspection and code enforcement assignments for fire prevention; and participates in fire and life safety educational programs. Fire Engineer is a journey level position responsible for independently performing the full scope of assigned duties including driving, operating, inspecting and maintaining fire apparatus and equipment. Fire Engineers may also provide training for lower level personnel, and must be able to exercise judgment and initiative. This position is distinguished from the lower classification of Firefighter by the specialized and complex work performed and higher degree of complex decision making in the absence of supervision.
