About The Position

Provide for public safety by suppressing wildland fires, conducting hazardous fuels reduction projects, performing graffiti remediation, responding to natural disasters, and promoting good community relations. Operates suppression vehicles on and off of county roads to achieve fire suppression objectives. Operates saws, pumps, chippers, and heavy equipment with hydraulic attachments. Operates small unmanned aircraft systems in support of wildland fire investigations, mitigation project planning, and law enforcement operations. Provides overhead assistance for extended search and rescue missions and in Emergency Operations Center during activations. Represents agency on collaborative efforts focused on fire mitigation and hazardous fuels reduction.

Requirements

  • High School Graduation or Equivalent.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire.
  • Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license.
  • Must possess the ability to obtain an FAA Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) license (Part 107) within one year of hire date.
  • Must possess NWCG Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) qualification with the ability to obtain NWCG Engine Boss (ENGB) qualification within one year of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Works in the field to provide fire engine crew guidance and to formulate strategies and tactics when responding to wildland fire emergencies.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of and compliance with all department policies, procedures and directives.
  • Applies appropriate safety precautions in hazardous and potentially dangerous situations.
  • Maintains awareness of own location and that of others to include fellow firefighters.
  • Possesses and maintains ability to annually pass the arduous NWCG Work Capacity Test.
  • Possesses and maintains ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Maintains awareness of assignment activities.
  • Maintains personal and departmental equipment in satisfactory condition.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with peers, supervisors and the public.
  • Inspects vehicles and equipment.
  • Operates vehicles and equipment during routine and emergency operations under varying weather and conditions.
  • Performs minor maintenance when required.
  • Speaks English clearly and converses effectively with persons of divergent ethnic, cultural and educational backgrounds.
  • Projects voice clearly and forcefully when necessary while under personal stress.
  • Must have basic user-level competency with computer operating systems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
