About The Position

The Fire/EMS Training Captain is responsible for the development and administration of training programs for the Bay County Emergency Services (BCES) System. This role involves coordinating education programs for staff, ensuring compliance with Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards, and evaluating training effectiveness through various methods. The position requires independent judgment and initiative in daily operations and reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Emergency Services.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Emergency Medical, Fire Science, or related field.
  • Two years of experience at the rank of Lieutenant or Captain, with four years in Fire and EMS, including two years at the Paramedic II level.
  • Must meet Florida Firefighter II and Paramedic requirements as per Florida Statutes and NFPA 1582.

Nice To Haves

  • Fire Instructor I certification preferred.
  • NAEMSE Instructor Level I or equivalent preferred.
  • Instructor certifications in AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, AMLS, and VFIS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers training programs for trainees, line personnel, and volunteers.
  • Coordinates with Emergency Services Divisions and the Medical Director to deliver training programs.
  • Reviews documentation of scene management and patient care outcomes.
  • Documents training to ensure proficiency and regulatory compliance, submitting reports to management.
  • Researches and organizes training programs for credentialed and non-credentialed employees.
  • Communicates performance deficiencies to supervisors and management.
  • Assists in evaluating new field equipment and makes purchase recommendations.
  • Coordinates orientation for new uniformed employees through the Field Training Evaluation Program.
  • Oversees Field Training Officers during new employee orientation.
  • Assists in reviewing and enforcing BCES policies and procedures, documenting disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Maintains accountability for training equipment and resource library.
  • Performs field assessments and rides with front-line employees as needed.
  • Staffs a Fire or EMS apparatus to provide training and response capabilities.
  • Assists in budget development for training supplies and opportunities.
  • Develops partnerships with agencies to enhance training and service delivery.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by leadership.
