About The Position

The Fire District Operations Chief provides support to eight rural county fire districts, acting as a professional and technical liaison between non-county fire districts, EMS, law enforcement, and state and county government on all matters related to county fire districts. Manages property and liability insurances, and processes insurance claims. Maintains workman’s compensation on all firefighters, processes claims, and completes accident paperwork when necessary. Respond to large events and perform command and/or operational duties and oversight in the absence of the County Fire Administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university
  • Credit given for National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program or Center for Public Excellence Chief Fire Officer designation
  • Must reside in Reno County
  • Possess 10 years of progressive experience in emergency operations
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Complete National Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • Must complete arson investigation within 24 months of hire
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must possess a valid Kansas Driver’s License: Non-Commercial Class B preferred
