About The Position

The Fire Code Compliance Plans Examiner is responsible for reviewing residential, industrial, and commercial plans to ensure compliance with national, state, and local building and fire regulations. This role involves providing code interpretation assistance, inspecting and enforcing fire codes, and ensuring life safety throughout the City of El Paso. The position requires a combination of technical knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to work with various stakeholders in the construction industry.

Requirements

• High School diploma, GED, or higher education.
• Four (4) years of code enforcement, construction code inspection, or plan review experience.
• Texas Class 'C' Driver's License or equivalent.
• Certification as Texas Fire Inspector within one (1) year of appointment.
• Certification by International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I and Fire Plans Examiner within one (1) year of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Review commercial and residential plans for compliance with building and fire ordinances.
• Perform functions of fire code compliance inspector as needed.
• Review plans to ensure compliance with minimum code requirements for building and fire ordinances.
• Verify that plans and drawings indicate the nature and character of work to determine conformance to fire code requirements.
• Approve issuance of construction permits and provide technical assistance regarding code standards.
• Enforce fire codes by issuing red tags, stop work orders, and correction notices when necessary.
• Conduct on-site inspections of construction projects for compliance with fire code requirements.
• Investigate complaints regarding illegal construction or hazardous conditions.
• Coordinate section activities with other city departments and outside agencies.

• Contract position with a salary range of $46,740 - $77,410 per year.
