About The Position

The Fire Battalion Chief is a second-level management position within the Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services Department (MCFRS). This role involves overseeing fire operations and prevention duties, ensuring compliance with fire codes, and managing personnel. The Battalion Chief serves as a liaison between various city departments and the community, providing training support and coordinating emergency operations. The position requires strong leadership skills to supervise firefighting and emergency medical operations, as well as to develop and implement training programs for staff.

Requirements

  • Certified Basic Firefighter from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
  • Certified Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services.
  • Completion of ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, and 800 courses.
  • Completion of Phase I and II Battalion Chief Ride-up Program within 30 days after appointment.
  • Completion of remaining Phases of Battalion Chief Ride-up Program within 12 months after appointment.
  • TCFP Incident Command Certification or completion of Blue Card Program within 12 months after appointment.
  • TCFP Officer II certification.
  • TCFP Instructor II certification.
  • TCFP Incident Safety Officer certification.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise personnel, including Fire Lieutenants, and coordinate operational activities of assigned shifts.
  • Command fire and rescue emergency operations, establishing strategic objectives at emergency incidents.
  • Perform firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical operations, evaluating incidents and developing strategies as incident commander.
  • Coordinate city and mutual aid resources during disasters in the Emergency Operations Center.
  • Conduct fire plan reviews and ensure compliance with local codes and state and federal laws.
  • Supervise the selection, maintenance, testing, and replacement of departmental equipment and apparatus.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing the Department's strategic plan and budget, forecasting funding needs.
  • Conduct fire prevention programs and community outreach initiatives.
  • Perform technical fire inspections and investigations, ensuring compliance with fire codes and regulations.
