The Fire/Assay Technician at Kinross Gold Corporation is responsible for the preparation and analysis of samples from the Mill and Mine departments. This role involves routine tasks such as crushing, splitting, and pulverizing samples, as well as performing fire assays and maintaining quality control in the laboratory. The technician will work independently under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental policies while contributing to the overall efficiency of the lab operations.

  • Perform routine preparation of samples including crushing, splitting, and pulverization.
  • Log in samples using a bar-code reader and maintain proper organization.
  • Conduct quality control checks on equipment.
  • Perform routine analyses including sample preparation, weighing ore samples, and fire assaying.
  • Input blasthole information into lab computers to organize samples and maintain sample integrity.
  • Employ appropriate sampling methods to obtain representative samples.
  • Maintain a clean work area and perform maintenance tasks on equipment as trained.
  • Input information into lab computers and maintain necessary documents.
  • Recommend procedural changes and process adjustments for quality control.
  • Perform analyses for special projects from other departments.
  • Ensure punctuality and regular attendance.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and environmental policies.
  • Identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
  • Handle chemicals and reagents according to procedures and manuals.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and work safely without significant risk.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong math and chemistry background preferred.
  • Problem solving and analytical ability necessary.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills are highly recommended.
  • Ability to function within the physical demands outlined in the job description.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work in a team environment.
  • Availability for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Previous lab experience preferred.
