About The Position

The Fire Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing fire prevention, life safety, and emergency preparedness programs across all district facilities. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal fire codes while promoting a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of fire prevention codes (NFPA, IFC, and local regulations).
  • Strong investigative and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to interpret building plans and technical documents.
  • Effective communication and training skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in fire prevention, inspection, or firefighting.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to walk buildings and grounds extensively.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Safety, or related field preferred
  • Certification as a Fire Inspector preferred
  • Knowledge of school safety regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine fire and life safety inspections of all school district buildings and properties.
  • Enforce applicable fire codes, regulations, and district safety policies.
  • Investigate fires, fire alarms, and related incidents; prepare detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Coordinate and conduct fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises in all schools and facilities.
  • Review building plans, renovations, and construction projects for fire code compliance.
  • Maintain records of inspections, violations, corrective actions, and fire incidents.
  • Provide fire safety education and training to staff and students.
  • Collaborate with local fire departments, emergency responders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and testing of fire protection systems (alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers).
  • Develop and update district-wide emergency response and evacuation plans.
  • Monitor hazardous materials storage and handling within district facilities.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed, including after-hours incidents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support the safety and operational needs of the district.
