About The Position

The Fire Alarm Systems Specialist will report to the hiring manager and take primary responsibility for the programming, startup, and commissioning of fire alarm and life safety systems. Leveraging a deep understanding of electrical circuitry and platforms such as Edwards EST 4, Silent Knight, or Notifier, the specialist will develop control databases, configure graphics, and verify programming sequences to ensure full system functionality. You will serve as a technical bridge between the sales, operations, and service teams, providing hands-on support to ensure a seamless transition from installation to long-term facility maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid NICET I – Fire Alarm System Level I
  • 3+ years’ with start-up commissioning, programming, and experience in the field.
  • 3+ years’ experience with fire alarm, security, and IP based CCTV.
  • 3+ years’ experience with low voltage life safety, security systems, such as Edwards EST 4, Silent Knight, Notifier.
  • 3+ years’ experience with troubleshooting fire alarm system and other low voltage security life safety systems.
  • Competence in troubleshooting basic electrical and electronic circuitry, including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.
  • Understanding of AC power circuitry, including breakers and multi-phase power systems (120VAC and greater).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electronics-related studies preferred.
  • Possession of a valid NICET II or higher.
  • 3-5 years’ experience troubleshooting, start-up, and programming with CCTV, security systems and door access control.
  • 3-5 years’ experience of hands-on experience specifically with Edwards EST 4 or Notifier Onyx Series platforms, including advanced logic programming and complex network configuration.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex fire alarm shop drawings and engineered design sets, including the ability to identify discrepancies in riser diagrams and battery calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate controls of special systems start-up and commissioning including point-to-point checkout on projects as assigned. Verify correct alarm, annunciation, and other actions by equipment, devices, panels, and annunciators of Special Systems projects.
  • Support installation personnel on project sites.
  • Provide information and support for other contractors on project site.
  • Troubleshoot installation issues during both the startup, commissioning, and servicing of building special systems.
  • Provide input to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building systems.
  • Ensure timely software backups are created for projects, service and software development.
  • Provide service support on existing installations ensuring systems continue to meet existing building occupancy codes.
  • Provide service support on existing systems insuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility’s building engineers.
  • Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist in preparing of as-built drawings and Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
  • Assist in turnover of projects from Operations Team to Service Team.
  • Assist Sales team during estimating phase including potential product or system demonstrations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
