About The Position

Academy Fire Life Safety is looking for a Fire Alarm Systems Designer with extensive knowledge in fire alarm system design and layout. The ideal candidate will collaborate with our project management and sales teams to develop designs for new and remodeled systems, prepare submittals for AHJ review, and create as-built drawings for completed projects. Fire Alarm Designer will assist in the preparation of compliant fire alarm shop drawings utilizing AutoCAD. This position will require the building of knowledge dealing with the selection of fire alarm system components, interpretation of code compliance requirements, and industry standards for the installation of fire protection systems. The candidate will assist in surveying existing fire alarm systems, drawing preparation, material listing, and field survey as required to successfully install fire alarm systems. This position requires an eager and motivated team player with a positive, professional attitude and demeanor. The Fire Alarm Designer is to deliver quality products and services which meet or exceed the customer's and industry standards, and to achieve customer satisfaction through a unified commitment to job competency and unsurpassed service.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems design.
  • Current Texas APS and Nicet Level III or IV.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2019 or higher.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficient in creating Submittal documents including creating the battery calculations and creating documents needs to submit to the Local AHJ/City.
  • Knowledge of Fire Lite, Potter, Bosch, Silent Knight, DMP, Honeywell/Ademco.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in Security IP Video and Access control.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare fire alarm design drawings within time and budget constraints, for commercial and retail buildings in compliance with applicable codes for submittal and fabrication.
  • Exhibit a desire to train on new systems and technologies.
  • Continue to expand knowledge in the field of fire protection by on-the-job training and self-direction.
  • Maintain project drawing files, drawing library and associated records.
  • Check accuracy of own work and demonstrate 'Pride of Ownership'.
  • Successfully interact with internal and external customers.
