About The Position

1st Fire Protection Services, LLC is a privately-owned fire protection company that designs, fabricates, installs, maintains, and inspects fire protection systems in commercial & industrial buildings. We have offices located in San Antonio, Austin, McAllen, Waco, Houston, College Station, Lubbock, and Laredo. We are looking for a Fire Alarm Apprentice to support licensed Fire Alarm Technicians in the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems. This entry-level position is designed for individuals seeking to gain hands-on experience and technical knowledge in the fire life safety industry while working toward required certifications and licensure.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Interest in electrical systems, low-voltage wiring, or fire life safety systems
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools preferred
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams (preferred but not required)
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
  • Ability to work in various environments (construction sites, commercial buildings, outdoors)
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work with hands for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams (preferred but not required)
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation of fire alarm systems, including wiring, devices, control panels, and related equipment
  • Support inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards and local codes
  • Help troubleshoot and repair system components under supervision
  • Pull wire, mount devices, install conduit, and label systems properly
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory in company vehicles
  • Complete required documentation accurately and timely
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines
  • Maintain a professional appearance and provide excellent customer service on job sites
  • Participate in training programs and pursue required state certifications
