About The Position

The Administrative Captain serves as the primary operational leader for the Community Care and Compliance Division, providing first-line supervision to a diverse team of Animal Control Specialists, Code Inspectors, and Fire Life Safety Specialists. In this role, the captain will manage the division's daily activities, overseeing scheduling, personnel logistics, and performance management to ensure efficient community service. The captain ensures that all division staff are supported, trained, and aligned with the departments public safety mission. This position requires a balanced leader capable of handling administrative rigor while maintaining the crew's field readiness. Beyond supervision, this is a hands-on technical role designed for professional growth within the Fire Marshals office. The captain will actively assist the Fire Marshal with origin and cause fire investigations and conduct routine field inspections to enforce safety codes. A key component of this role is professional development; the captain will undertake training to master fire plan reviews, learning to interpret blueprints and technical specifications for new construction. This position blends personnel management, field investigation, and technical learning for the Community Care and Compliance Division and the Office of the Fire Marshal. This position will be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal, or designee. This position will be required to work irregular hours and be on an on-call rotation as necessary.
