About The Position

The Finishing Operator position at Armstrong World Industries involves performing inspections of the PLO work area, including all equipment, lift trucks, and conveyor belts to identify malfunctions and potential problem areas. The role requires adherence to PPE guidelines and safe work practices, conducting daily safety risk assessments, and participating in the Near Miss/Good Catch and Safety Management System. Operators will be responsible for the start-up and shutdown of fiber line/packaging equipment, ensuring proper functioning and documentation. The position also includes packaging finished products according to customer requirements, loading bales into trailers, completing necessary paperwork, and participating in all stages of packing equipment operation. Operators must safely operate mobile equipment and perform preventive maintenance on balers, report irregularities, and provide thorough shift communications. Training new operators and performing other tasks as needed are also part of the role. The work environment is dusty and not climate-controlled, requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2+ years of prior industrial or warehouse experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with lean/process improvement preferred.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in roles within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and balance tasks with team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections of the PLO work area and equipment.
  • Follow PPE guidelines and safe work practices.
  • Conduct daily safety risk assessments.
  • Participate in the Near Miss/Good Catch and Safety Management System.
  • Perform start-up and shutdown of fiber line/packaging equipment.
  • Package finished products according to customer requirements and SOPs.
  • Load bales into trailers using a clamp truck.
  • Complete required packaging paperwork.
  • Participate in all stages of packing equipment operation.
  • Safely operate mobile equipment and front-end loader.
  • Perform down day PM of balers.
  • Report irregularities, off-spec products, and safety risks.
  • Provide thorough shift communications.
  • Troubleshoot and problem-solve issues on the line.
  • Suggest modifications to production equipment.
  • Train new Finishing Operators.
  • Inspect recycle system and perform operator maintenance.
  • Adjust baler for weight and measurement standards.
  • Perform consistent housekeeping of the finishing line area.
