About The Position

The Finishing Department Laborer is responsible for assisting in the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of the Finishing Department with an emphasis on processing master rolls and converting them into various widths and diameters. This position ensures paper products are processed, packaged, and inspected in accordance with company standards of safety, quality, and production. This list is not all-inclusive, and additional duties may be assigned based on workload and operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work effectively in a high-speed production environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Reliable team player with a positive and proactive work ethic.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in supporting production needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with forklift or machine operation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all mill and department safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear the required PPE and maintain a safe and clean working area.
  • Complete safety inspections sheets for forklifts and clamp trucks.
  • Inspect reams and rolls for defects such as improper seals, miscuts, offsets, wrinkles, or damage.
  • Ensure products meets size, diameter, and qualty specifications.
  • Mark, label, and timestamp finished products as required.
  • Divert defective product for recycling.
  • Assist with roll changes, labeling, splicing, and threading of paper into machinery.
  • Operate and monitor finishing equipment to include sheeters, slitters, winders, case packers, gue machines, lid packers, labelers, strappers, and balers.
  • Support operators by loading rolls, setting slitters, jogging paper through machines, and starting/stopping production runs.
  • Monitor machine functions usch as trim disposal, brake pressure, and edge guides.
  • Work under the direction of the machine operators and crew leaders to maintain workflow.
  • Communicate clearly regarding prodcution isues, safety concern, or quality problems.
  • Assist with packing, stacking, and staging finished product for shipment.
  • Assist with basic machine adjsutments such as splicing, roll changes, and roll ejects.
  • Refill suppllies to include glue, labels, wire rolle, carton flats, lid flats, strapping, and any other items needed.
  • Report equipment issues ro malfunctions promptly to operators or supervisors.
