About The Position

The Fingerprint Technician I position at the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff involves confirming identities through fingerprint analysis, assisting in manual fingerprint collection, and providing verification checks. Requirements

• Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license
• High School Diploma, GED, or High School Proficiency Certificate
• Completion of 15 semester units or 20 quarter units from an accredited college, including courses in chemistry or biology and fingerprint or evidence collection
• One year of experience in a law enforcement agency involving evidence handling or fingerprint comparisons can substitute for the fingerprint course

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a Law Enforcement internship
• Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher
• Experience in a public jurisdiction performing fingerprint identification
• Experience operating the automated 10-System (AFIS)
• Membership in related professional organizations
• Certification as a 10-print examiner

Responsibilities

• Confirming the identities of persons via fingerprints
• Notifying Law Enforcement & other agencies of custody details
• Assisting in manual fingerprint collection
• Verifying the work of colleagues through confirmatory checks
• Performing intake and relaying information quickly and accurately
• Studying for and passing the Fingerprint Academy
• Learning and operating the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS)
