About The Position

The Content Specialist for Fine and Performing Arts provides leadership and assistance in implementing the essential curriculum, preparing program assessments, and conducting staff development to enhance teaching strategies.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree and/or an Advanced Professional Certification in the content area, curriculum development, assessment, or related area.
  • A minimum of 5 years of exemplary teaching experience in the arts.
  • A minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in fine and performing arts, with some system-wide experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability to include effective organization, communication, and human relations skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, administer, and evaluate programs.
  • Knowledge of current trends, practices, and programs within the field of fine and performing arts.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Administrator I (Supervisor) in Maryland preferred.
  • Experience working with county, regional, and state professional committees or organizations is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and analyzes data to identify curricular, staff development, and assessment needs for the program.
  • Organizes and administers committees for curriculum development and evaluation of instructional materials.
  • Collaborates with central office and school-based staff to implement, monitor, and evaluate program status and needs.
  • Provides technical assistance to schools, other content areas, and departments regarding the program.
  • Plans, develops, and implements in-service and staff development courses relevant to the needs of professional personnel.
  • Serves as program liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education and other agencies.
  • Develops reports and provides information regarding program status for the school system and community groups.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets related to the program.
  • Analyzes state and county data related to student performance in fine and performing arts skills and content to determine program needs.
  • Provides leadership in reviewing and revising curricula (K-12).
  • Works with central office and school-based staff to provide information regarding program needs, current trends, and technical assistance.
  • Collaborates as part of an instructional team to support the implementation of system initiatives.
  • Provides essential staff development support for teachers and resource staff.
  • Provides support and direction to fine and performing arts chairs and resource staff.
  • Develops a system of formative and summative measures to determine program status in elementary and secondary.
  • Coordinates competitions, contests, and special projects related to the program.
  • Coordinates program with federal, state, and local policies and regulations.
  • Serves on committees inside and outside the Office of Teaching and Learning and school systems as necessary.
