About The Position

The Fine Arts Instructor at Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind is responsible for developing and executing a curriculum that promotes the artistic and personal growth of individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves direct supervision of consumers and staff, ensuring participation in Fine Arts programming, and facilitating community integration activities. The instructor will also maintain a safe and organized classroom environment while collaborating with other instructors to meet program goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Proficiency in various Fine Arts mediums including drawing, painting, and ceramics.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Strong writing skills for documentation and reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
  • Valid CA driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or move weights ranging from 10 to 50 pounds.

  • Experience in Creative Arts Therapy.

  • Experience in classroom management and teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a curriculum and timeline for consumer professional development in Fine Arts courses.
  • Submit semester lesson plans to the Creative Arts Supervisor 30 days before the semester starts.
  • Create interactive activities and projects using various Fine Arts mediums appropriate for individuals.
  • Develop end-of-semester showcases for each course and present them to professional partners.
  • Coordinate schedules with assistants to implement classroom and community activities consistently.
  • Communicate classroom and community expectations to assistants and other parties as needed.
  • Provide training and direct supervision of consumers and staff in Fine Arts courses.
  • Assist consumers with adaptive equipment and ensure their safety during activities.
  • Plan, manage, and evaluate staff efforts to achieve program objectives and consumer outcomes.
  • Write Person-Centered Plans (PCP) and monthly reports for assigned individuals.
  • Maintain open communication with staff, management, and stakeholders regarding consumer progress and concerns.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with other instructors to promote a positive workplace and meet program goals.
  • Complete required training and attend scheduled in-service training and staff meetings.
