About The Position

The Financial Specialist at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Medicine is responsible for managing the day-to-day fiscal operations of the Dean's Units. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in fiscal operations, budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of financial management and fundamental accounting principles.
  • Experience with procurement and travel systems (RealSource, Bank of America Works, Chrome River).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data extraction and financial reporting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day fiscal operations of the Dean's Units.
  • Assist with procurement, reimbursements, reconciliations, budget development, and spending monitoring.
  • Serve as the Dean's Unit Purchaser and Approver in the RealSource online procurement system.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order placement and proper fiscal allocation.
  • Track purchases against established budgets to ensure appropriateness and alignment with budget.
  • Process personal and travel reimbursements using the Chrome River university travel system.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations for certification in the Finance Dashboard.
  • Provide guidance and training to Dean's Unit personnel on fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Monitor Dean's Unit revenue and expenses, preparing reports as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of asset location as the Fixed Assets Custodian.
