About The Position

The Financial Specialist I position at Fairfax County Government is a full-time role within the Department of Family Services, focusing on financial management and compliance. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with at least 6 credit hours in basic accounting principles.
  • Four years of increasingly complex technical administrative experience in financial management or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret financial reports and policies, and analyze revenue and expenses.

Nice To Haves

  • Considerable knowledge of Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable processes.
  • Experience with governmental budgeting or accounting and financial management.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience managing billing and collections using various software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory oversight and support for a small financial team managing the agency's procurement card program.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and county policies and procedures.
  • Track and manage social security and child support refunds into the special welfare fund.
  • Oversee the Gift Fund, Area Agency on Aging Fund, and Adult and Aging Fund.
  • Apply all wires to the county's FOCUS system and process repayments for various state and local programs.
  • Assist with the execution of the monthly state LASER billing process and provide backup coverage.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with budget and procurement documents.
  • Analyze cost, revenue, and operating expenses, and maintain special revenue/account funds.
