About The Position

The Financial Planning Intern role provides hands-on experience in a collaborative, advisor-focused environment. This internship is designed for individuals who are actively pursuing, or plan to pursue, the education and licensing required to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®). Across six to nine months, interns gain exposure to real world financial planning processes, client experience workflows, and industry standard tools—building a strong foundation for launching a successful career in financial planning. This role is designed for learners — candidates should have curiosity, professionalism, and a desire to grow. This is a part-time, in-office role stationed at our headquarters in Sandy, Utah.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a bachelor’s degree program in financial planning, finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Pursuing the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation.
  • Curious, motivated, and eager to learn from experienced professionals.
  • Strong communicator with a professional, positive presence.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple assignments.
  • Comfortable using technology and learning new systems.
  • Strong computer and technical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of financial planning concepts from coursework.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A proactive, self-starter mindset with a willingness to ask questions and seek feedback.

  • Prefer experience with eMoney Advisor, MoneyGuidePro, and RightCapital.

Responsibilities

  • Help gather client information and complete data entry, modeling, and analysis for financial plans for both new and existing clients.
  • Assist with research on financial planning topics as needed.
  • Contribute to projects that strengthen and improve planning processes.
  • Prepare materials for client planning meetings and assist with meeting notes as needed.
  • Observe advisor-client interactions to learn effective planning practices.
