About The Position

The BSA/AML position involves performing complex research and analysis of Navy Federal account activity to identify red flags and suspicious activity in both personal and business accounts. The role requires conducting in-depth risk reviews and documenting enhanced due diligence, including activity trend analysis. The individual will maintain knowledge of BSA/AML history, regulations, and industry guidance while supporting Business Unit staff in complying with established BSA/AML policies and procedures. Familiarity with typical legal business structures and normal activity by business industry is essential. The work is conducted under general direction. Additionally, the role includes supporting day-to-day Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) operations, compliance analyses, and projects across the enterprise in compliance with Navy Federal's BSA/AML & OFAC Compliance Program. Responding to ad-hoc OFAC related queries and providing subject matter expertise to partner business units is also part of the responsibilities. The position requires maintaining knowledge of OFAC history, regulations, and industry guidance, and is performed under general direction. The Financial Crimes Quality Control aspect of the role involves performing research and analysis of Navy Federal account activity related to suspicious transactions, creating and maintaining Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), and ensuring adherence to applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations (e.g., Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC regulations).
  • Experience in leading, guiding, and mentoring others.
  • Expert knowledge of fraud and/or money-laundering trends and threats.
  • Significant experience applying various analytical techniques to resolve fraud and identity theft.
  • Extensive experience working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and vendors.

  • Fraud or AML Certifications: Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex research and analysis of Navy Federal account activity to identify red flags and suspicious activity.

  • Monitor timeline from identification/notification of fraudulent/suspicious activity to closure.
  • Create detailed reports of investigations including actions taken and results.
  • Collaborate with other business units to understand transactions and identify risk potential.
