About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to enhance, develop and implement financial counseling and financial community education programs for a diverse age group to support BayPort Credit Union’s mission and vision. Counsel and educate members and potential members in the communities BayPort Credit Union serves. This includes providing excellent member service to current Credit Union members. Services to be provided include but are not limited to: financial counseling, assisting members in preparing a budget, reviewing credit reports, financial education workshops to be held during and after normal working hours, informing members of other Credit Union products and services, making appropriate referrals, and other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • College degree required with a major in Education or related field or commensurate experience.
  • Knowledge of financial education principles and practices of effective teaching methods.
  • Previous experience leading in-person classes and workshops.

  • Exceptional written communication skills; including dictation, spelling, and grammar accuracy.
  • Excellent oral communication skills; communicate clearly in all situations and conduct business in person and over other electronic channels.
  • Ability to work independently, using personal judgment and problem-solving techniques to complete tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and Saturdays for scheduled events.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous financial services experience or teaching experience preferred.
  • Utilize a range of computer software applications to include Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, and Power Point), Canva, project management software, and other graphic software.
  • Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) designation through the Financial Counseling Certification Program (FiCEP).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement programs to increase community financial literacy.
  • Plan, develop, schedule, and conduct in-person workshops, seminars, and classes to be held during and after normal working hours.
  • Counsel and assist members in resolving their credit problems and financial hardships by reviewing credit reports, creating budgets, and more as needed.
  • Conduct in-person literacy classes in the underserved communities.
  • Create branded presentations, templates, and curriculums utilizing design software and programs.
  • Maintain department records and reports.
  • Track and compile data to ensure adequate services to meet member needs while maintaining cost effectiveness.
  • Grow and maintain relationships within the community to represent the credit union on various committees which promote financial literacy.
  • Research and remain current with financial matters, especially in the local area.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other specialized professionals and organizations when needed.
