About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, the Financial Data Scientist plays a key role in transforming data into strategic insights. This position combines financial acumen with advanced analytics to support decision-making, improve forecasting accuracy, and optimize housing operations for military communities. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, collaborative, and passionate about leveraging data to drive financial performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Data Science, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field. Required or Master's Degree Data Science, Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related field.
  • 1-3 years Proven data science experience in finance and/or FP&A. Required
  • 1-3 years Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Required
  • 1-3 years Strong understanding of financial modeling, forecasting, and property management metrics. Required
  • 1-3 years Experience working with large datasets and statistical/predictive analysis. Required
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a results driven mindset.
  • Strong communication skills to present complex insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting concepts, property maintenance processes and the related to successful multi-family operations.
  • Automate data collection, transformation and analytics with scripts and lower-level programing languages (e.g. Java, python).
  • Automate report generation for dashboard tools including PowerBI and Tableau.
  • Expert knowledge of dashboard tools.
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling, machine learning, and time series forecasting.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-3 years Experience in military housing, government contracts, or real estate operations. Preferred
  • 1-3 years Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., Yardi, Workday, JDE), financial planning tools (e.g., Planful, Adaptive Insights), or other CPM systems. Preferred
  • 1-3 years Understanding of occupancy trends, maintenance cycles, and capital planning in residential property management. Preferred
  • 1-3 years Experience with Yardi property management platform and Snowflake data warehouse is a plus. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and maintenance of predictive models for revenue, expense, and cash flow forecasting.
  • Analyzes large datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities impacting financial performance.
  • Builds dashboards and visualizations to support leadership reporting and performance tracking.
  • Collaborates with FP&A analysts to enhance budgeting, scenario planning, and variance analysis.
  • Automates data workflows and reporting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Supports ad hoc analysis for business cases, investments, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Assists with sensitivity analysis and financial modeling for MHPI project restructures and operational issues.
  • Coordinates with FP&A Director, Asset Managers, and Operations Teams to create the annual operating and capital budget.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between the FP&A team and internal/external developers for system upgrades, integrations, and enhancements.
  • Leads integration efforts with ERP, BI, Data Warehousing, and CPM systems to ensure seamless data flow and usability.
