About The Position

The Financial Counselor at FHN Central Business Office in Freeport, IL, is responsible for organizing bills, recovering, and resolving open accounts receivables to ensure solid cash performance for the organization. This role involves utilizing multiple tools and systems to analyze and execute daily revenue cycle billing processes, including quality assurance and the issuance of insurance claims, client statements, and guarantor billing statements. The Financial Counselor plays a crucial role in cash flow management and is expected to have in-depth knowledge of the field to assist patients with self-pay collections and financial assistance options.

Requirements

• Associates Degree preferred.
• 2 - 5 years of relevant experience.
• Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Understanding of Managed Care Structures/Contracting.
• Coding Certificate.
• Insurance Certificate.
• Completion of HFMA CRCR certification within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Process account corrections to ensure accurate and compliant billing.
• Perform in-depth analysis of daily client and claim files prior to electronic submission to payers.
• Analyze open self-pay AR and formulate follow-up tactics to resolve account situations.
• Assist in training of others and provide assistance to other teams.
• Communicate effectively with patients regarding insurance and billing inquiries.
• Utilize reporting mechanisms to identify patients for OB Contracts and explain setup.
• Keep abreast of requirements for CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 billing.
