About The Position

Find your purpose as a Financial Counselor with CentraCare! As a Financial Counselor, you'll be instrumental in ensuring patients have a clear understanding of their financial responsibilities and options when it comes to healthcare expenses. Expertise in Medicaid and other assistance programs is essential for guiding patients through the complexities of insurance coverage and payment arrangements. The Financial Counselor is responsible for working with patients virtually or in person to provide information regarding anticipated expenses, insurance coverage, payment options/resources and financial assistance programs. They should have in-depth knowledge of Medicaid and its affiliated programs so we can best meet the needs of our patients. The Financial Counselor should strive to handle accounts in ways that best affect patient experience and minimize bad debts. Supports and implements patient safety and other safety practices as appropriate. Supports and demonstrates Family Centered Care principles when interacting with patients, their families and with co-workers.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in business or a healthcare related program or 2 years relevant healthcare or collection experience in lieu of education
  • Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) Training Certification and MNsure Certification through the Department of Human Services. To include recertification on an annual basis within 60 Days
  • Experience with use of Microsoft Office suite, computer systems and software
  • Ability to research insurance
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of billing and collection principles, including all applicable laws and regulations pertinent to healthcare collections is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish or Somali a plus.
