About The Position

The Financial Counselor 2-ED assists patients seeking treatment in our Emergency or Advanced Urgent Care departments to navigate through the financial process from the MSE to discharge or admission. This role contributes to all functions of the financial office, including serving as a resource to colleagues. Responsibilities include verifying benefits and eligibility, facilitating authorization from payers and medical groups, and obtaining pertinent documentation to support authorization requests. The counselor maintains ongoing communication with payers, primary care physicians, and RN service coordinators as necessary. They are also responsible for creating and executing financial contracts with patients and payers for both LLUMC facility and LLUHC professional services, adhering to LLUMC policy. These services may be provided for both the LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. The position also involves performing other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years customer service experience
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Able to write legibly
  • Speak in English with professional quality
  • Deliver the highest level of customer service to all patients, family, internal and external customers
  • Use a computer, printer, and software programs necessary to position (e.g., Microsoft applications, patient accounting, registration and insurance eligibility applications)
  • Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the job

Nice To Haves

  • Customer service experience preferably in hospital-based registration, physician’s office, Medical Group registration specializing in Managed Care, Medi-Cal, Medicare, and/or California Children's Services
  • Experience with Federal, State, and County eligibility regulations
