About The Position

The Financial Counseling Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing financial counseling services to patients and families. This position is responsible for screening patients to determine potential for program assistance and subsequent completion of applications with the patient and family. The Financial Counseling Specialist maintains knowledge of community agencies and resources to facilitate appropriate referrals and identification of payment sponsorship and assists with the establishment of payment plan and collection of approved deposits and prior balances. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or related PLUS two (2) years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle or revenue cycle related function OR High School Diploma/GED PLUS 6 years of experience in healthcare in a revenue cycle related function.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with all self-pay, inpatient and observation patients to explain benefits, financial obligation, payment options and assistance programs.
  • Assist patients and families in the completion of applications for financial assistance.
  • Assist with financial screening and program explanation in the emergency department, as requested.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Comply with safety principles, laws, standards and regulations associated with CMS, Joint Commission, EMTALA and OSHA.
  • Ensure compliance with UAMS Patient Access, UAMS confidentiality and HIPAA related policies and procedures.
  • Models the Core Values of UAMS - Integrity, Respect, Diversity, Teamwork, Creativity, and excellence in compliance with company guidelines.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
