About The Position

Dental Health Associates, a trusted part of the Madison community for over 50 years, is seeking a dedicated Financial Coordinator to join our supportive and fun team! The primary function of the Financial Coordinator position is to research and discuss insurance benefits with patients and establish and regulate financial agreements with patients. The financial coordinator must be available to travel between clinics to fill in as needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of collection experience; one year of medical or dental insurance background preferred.
  • Knowledge of health or dental insurance plans and dental billing/collection practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local legal and regulatory provisions that relate to collection activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English language.
  • Cash handling skills.
  • Skilled at multi-tasking and using sound judgment for decision making.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Ability to carry through with varying doctor's decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to keep a positive, calm attitude in stressful situations.

Responsibilities

  • Project a professional image while greeting patients and visitors.
  • Research insurance benefits on behalf of patient; calculate patient portions; verify insurance when information is conflicting.
  • Contact patient in advance to discuss insurance benefits, patient portions due, and financial arrangement options.
  • Secure payment and/or financial arrangement day of service when advance contact is not available.
  • Provide written communication to the patient on the documented payment agreement and expectations.
  • Provide initial follow-up to payment arrangements to ensure patient portion commitment(s) are met.
  • Remain up-to-date and knowledgeable with insurance as it pertains to dental; maintain ability to answer basic to diverse insurance and third party questions; maintain a complete understanding of the billing and claims process.
  • Enter detailed notes in the computer system of action taken with each interaction with the patient or any other party related to the account.
  • Possess ability to accurately audit accounts (review personal/insurance payments, insurance adjustments) to answer patient inquiries.
  • Coordinate collection efforts with Clinic Account Representatives.
  • Remain knowledgeable on changes in federal and state credit laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
