About The Position

The AVP, Controller at Signal Management Services, LLC is a senior-level position responsible for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the company's financial data with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP). This role involves managing financial reporting, account reconciliations, and supporting the annual audit process, while also identifying process improvements within the financial reporting and accounting functions. The position is based in South Norwalk, CT, and operates under a hybrid working model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • CPA and/or Master's preferred, but not required.
  • 8+ years of relevant accounting/financial analysis required.
  • 4+ years of experience working in the insurance industry is required.
  • Experience with Workday or Phinsys is a plus.
  • Expert user of the Microsoft suite of products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the quarterly and monthly close, ensuring all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Prepare robust balance sheet and income statement analytics for management review.
  • Ensure all intercompany balances are properly reconciled and eliminated.
  • Perform account reconciliations for all general ledger accounts under your responsibility, including both technical and non-technical accounts.
  • Monitor new accounting standards to ensure compliance with US GAAP accounting, and assist with documentation of the Mutual's positions.
  • Support the preparation of financial statement disclosures.
  • Act as one of the main points of contact for the annual audit process, providing accurate and detailed documentation to external auditors.
  • Own the risk management and analysis of our Members' financial position and the required Members' security.
  • Prepare billings for certain Members of the Mutual.
  • Assist with various Management and Board reporting, as needed.
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements in financial reporting and accounting functions.
  • Build detailed reference and process documentation for accounting functions.
  • Support system implementation or other project work, as necessary.
