About The Position

Community Concepts, a Maine nonprofit that provides resources to help people move forward, is seeking a Financial Controller. This is a full-time position, working in our Lewiston Office, and reports directly to the CFO.

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Computer literacy is a must, including Microsoft Excel & Word, and accounting software.
  • Strong understanding of fiscal policy; create usable budgets for the business; hire and oversee the leaders on the Finance Team; a continuous improvement mindset; offer advice to the CFO and CEO regarding spending and budget questions; comfortable with interacting with a Finance Committee/Board, detail oriented, ability to manage/lead multiple financial projects; ability to inspire a team; written and verbal communication must be able to explain financial concepts to non-financial staff; promptly and accurately find solutions to financial related challenges.
  • Pre-employment SBI, DMV, Maine, and National Sex Offender Registry, DHHS, fraud, and federal debarment background checks must be completed upon offer of hire and as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or Business Administration, and/or certified by the State Board of Certified Public Accountants preferred.
  • 5-7 years of related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CFO and Director for all operations of the Finance team to guide financial decisions and activities; establish, monitor, and enforce policies, procedures, and internal controls, including OMB and GAAP rules. Handle escalated funder calls, review and approval of credit memos, ensure month-end deadlines of the Finance team are met, etc.
  • Review financial reports on a monthly basis for compliance and accuracy, notifying the Director of Finance of any concerns. Attend and participate in monthly management reviews of financial reports.
  • Responsible for review and approval of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for the Finance team; advise the CFO or Director of Finance of any irregularities.
  • Review and approve monthly journal entries prepared by Finance staff and ensure staff are current with policies and procedures, including GAAP rules.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of OMB Circular A-110, A-122, A-133 and 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance “Super Circular” to develop and maintain detail knowledge of relevant contracts; prepare timely and accurate contract financial reports; assist with the resolution of findings or other reportable conditions arising from audits or monitoring visits by funding sources as needed.
  • Partner with the CFO and Director to ensure all financial and performance reports are filed with the appropriate funding source in a timely manner, signing all monthly billings, quarterly reports, and closeout reports. Work directly with the Agency’s independent auditors to ensure all State and Federal awards are included in the annual MAAP & OMB audits.
  • Maintain a comprehensive system of accounting records, such as, of all program contracts, reporting due dates, chart of accounts, etc.
