About The Position

The Construction Accounting Controller will play a pivotal role in providing financial leadership within a growing company. This position is designed for a motivated professional with aspirations to develop into a CFO role, focusing on strategic financial decision-making and team development. The Controller will oversee various accounting functions, maintain job cost systems, and ensure accurate financial reporting while supporting the company's growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a similar field.
  • 5-10 years of financial management experience, preferably in a construction organization.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Project and time management skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support to accounting staff overseeing accounts payable, work in progress, fixed assets, human resources, payroll, and benefits.
  • Maintain job cost systems and interface with the Project Management team to ensure accurate invoicing and timely collection of accounts receivable.
  • Oversee all aspects of month-end close and general ledger functions.
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and a quarterly comprehensive financial reporting package.
  • Conduct detailed monthly financial statement discussions and track KPIs and financial metrics against initial estimates.
  • Develop, analyze, and implement strong internal and financial controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Support the development of financial models for informed business decisions by the executive team.
  • Oversee cash management, including monitoring cash balances and preparing cash flow forecasts.
  • Coordinate year-end audit and tax filing with an outside CPA firm.
  • Review insurance, worker's compensation, and employee benefits with managers.
