About The Position

The Financial Compliance Senior Advisor supports Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) and SOC 1 compliance for the Evernorth segment, with a focus on business process internal controls. This role partners closely with control and process owners to assess control design, support documentation, and drive remediation of identified deficiencies as well as support control readiness with key process changes. Reporting to the Director of Financial Compliance, the role works extensively with internal stakeholders and both internal and external audit teams. The individual in this role will be responsible for: Partnering with business owners to assess and support the design of Evernorth business process internal controls commensurate with significant financial statement risk Collaborating with Information Technology Compliance to assess technology controls, dependencies, and their impact on business process controls Supporting and contributing to the annual SOX scoping analysis for the Evernorth segment Leading control assessment activities for business initiatives by partnering with key business owners to evaluate impacts to the Evernorth financial controls environment and define required actions Acting as a primary liaison with internal and external auditors and process owners to ensure audit readiness, timely responding to documentation requests, and escalation of key SOX and SOC 1 control deficiencies Partnering with control owners to identify root cause, evaluate compensating controls, and define remediation actions for control gaps or operating deficiencies Providing guidance and subject matter expertise to team members to support departmental activities and ensure alignment with objectives Supporting departmental initiatives as needed, including business owner controls training, serving as a subject matter expert for operational controls, and ensuring timely updates to controls and process documentation Building and maintaining strong relationships with key business partners to ensure alignment on critical processes and financial controls, and supporting ongoing process improvement initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 8–10+ years of experience in public accounting and/or industry, with significant exposure to SOX and/or SOC 1 internal controls, preferred
  • Strong understanding of technology and business process internal controls and risk assessment
  • Strong project management, organizational, and documentation skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with control owners and other stakeholders including internal and external auditors.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple deliverables and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter, quick learner and team player
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify when complex items require escalation
  • If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
