About The Position

The Financial Assistant 2, Post Award, in Biological Engineering will provide complex and diverse financial assistance on post-award sponsored research activities. The role involves performing financial management of fund and research accounts for faculty, monitoring account activity and expenditures for compliance with sponsor guidelines and approved budgets, and reconciling account statements and salary expense reports in accordance with the financial review and control process. The assistant will prepare monthly projections, approve requests for payment, travel expense reports, and other accounting forms, review and approve invoices, process requisitions, and review purchase order commitments. Additionally, the assistant will assist with preparing current and pending support, conduct monthly reviews of closing reports, process account closeouts including compliance audits, oversee and maintain all financial documentation and electronic files, serve as a resource for lab members regarding MIT-related issues, and perform other duties as directed. This position involves making detailed decisions based on broad general guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three years of related financial, accounting, and grants management experience.
  • Self-motivation and strong attention to detail.
  • Customer service orientation and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ease with telephone and in-person contacts.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word.
  • Discretion with sensitive/confidential information.
  • Willingness to assume new responsibilities as needed.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to take initiative to implement and/or improve established financial processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong accounting skills.
  • Experience with MIT financial systems Kuali COEUS, COGNOS, and SAP.

Responsibilities
