About The Position

About the Role: Fermilab’s Finance Organization seeks a Financial Analyst to assist in financial planning, reporting, and analysis for the Laboratory’s operational areas. This individual assists with budget development, cost monitoring, and financial reporting while learning laboratory financial systems, policies, and procedures. The position contributes to accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations in support of mission objectives. What your day-to-day as a Financial Analyst will look like:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field with 2+ years of experience or any equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis principles.
  • Basic understanding of federal or grant-funded financial environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to learn ERP/financial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and data integrity.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing budget submissions and updates by compiling financial data and documentation.
  • Support development of budget projections and multi-year forecasts under guidance from senior analysts and Laboratory Directorate.
  • Participate in reviews of Construction and Equipment Work-in-Process to determine capitalization or asset reclassification.
  • Monitor monthly and quarterly costs; assist with variance analysis and flag discrepancies for review.
  • Organize financial data into summary reports, tables, and charts for various spending categories such as labor, materials, and services.
  • Review timecards and effort reporting weekly; ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies to prevent payroll impacts.
  • Support enterprise system updates and implementations, including user testing, documentation, and report development.
  • Ensure accuracy of data entry and compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Abide by and perform all duties in accordance with applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
