About The Position

We are seeking a Financial Analyst who combines strong analytical and reporting expertise with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for our stakeholders. This role serves as an interactive business partner, regularly engaging with department leaders in meetings and discussions rather than working solely behind the scenes. The successful candidate will advise and directly support leadership throughout the year—not just during budget cycles—providing strategic financial guidance, fostering informed decision-making, and building collaborative relationships across the organization

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, financial management, or business administration, including complex reconciliations and budgeting activities.

  • Experience managing academic budgets, sponsored research funds, or state-funded operations.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting and Reporting Lead complex accounting activities, including review, analysis, and reconciliation of financial transactions and accounts.
  • Serve as a lead accountant, providing technical guidance and training related to accounting standards, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze complex financial and operational reports, including budget-to-actual comparisons, forecasts, ratios, and trend analyses.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and reliability of financial records in compliance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve financial discrepancies, variances, and system posting issues; communicate findings and recommendations to management.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management Monitor expenditures and revenue activity to ensure alignment with budgetary guidelines and funding restrictions.
  • Assist in or lead annual fiscal year-end close activities and ensure timely completion of required reconciliations and reports.
  • Business Operations and Administration Oversee unit business operations, including review and approval of financial documents such as vouchers, requisitions, and account reconciliations.
  • Act as an approver and backup signer for financial transactions and fund transfers.
  • Coordinate cash handling activities, ensuring appropriate controls over receipts, deposits, disbursements, and refunds.
  • Manage capital equipment purchases and serve as property or accountability officer, as assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison with internal administrative and support units.
  • Policies, Controls, and Process Improvement Design, implement, evaluate, and improve accounting and business processes, internal controls, and procedures.
  • Develop, recommend, and document policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Interpret and apply system policies, institutional rules, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify business and financial risks and recommend corrective actions or process improvements.
  • Leadership, Training, and Support Provide training and ongoing support to staff on accounting, financial, and administrative processes.
  • Supervise or provide functional oversight to staff and student employees, including hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Address and resolve operational, procedural, and personnel issues within assigned authority.
